Threshold Arts is excited to partner with the Rochester Area Chamber of Commerce Leadership Greater Rochester Class of 2019 on The CRATE Art Lending Library. This library is a regional provider of cultural expression and art lending with the mission of: creating equal access to art in the greater Rochester Area, increasing exposure for artists, and promoting growth and innovation for the future of the arts.

The CRATE allows community members to borrow art for free for approximately two months. Click here for more information on borrowing art.

The CRATE is also a vehicle for local/regional artists to contribute pieces to go into circulation. If you are interested in lending or donating art to be shared throughout the community, please visit this page to learn more and submit your artwork for consideration.

Program Origin

The CRATE was the brain child inspired by lending libraries around the world. Threshold Arts and Leadership Greater Rochester (LGR) teamed up to bring this model to the Rochester area as the Community Impact Project (CIP) from the LGR class of 2019. LGR began planning and executing the project in January of 2019 in hopes of creating a viable and sustainable means for the community, especially those with limited access to local and regional art, to decorate their homes, office, etc. with their particular style of art.

Another goal of the CIP was to provide local and regional artists with an opportunity to circulate their own art throughout the community. The project will start out as a “pop-up” event, and we hope to eventually expand to a permanent site in the future! Check out our Events page for the next pop-up near you!
