Community Studio & Makerspace
The Armory has a history of serving as a place for citizens to gather, learn, and socialize. Castle Community will continue and expand upon that tradition with our dedication to arts, culture, and community collaboration. The third floor will have a 600 square-foot room dedicated for use as a Community Studio, similar to a model offered by the McMenanims organization. The Community Studio will be available for use free of charge to nonprofits, neighborhood groups, and other community organizations that need space to meet in Rochester.
The Community Studio will have modular tables and chairs for a variety of arrangements from classroom, to conference, or individual work stations.
The Community Studio must be booked (facilitated by Threshold management) in advance and will be available during the hours of operation of the common areas of the building (estimated 7am – 9pm). Users of the Community Studio may conveniently order meals or snacks from Cameo on the first floor. This space will provide unique and valuable resource for the community to gather.
The Turret gallery space will provide local artists with an opportunity to think critically and create meaningful exhibitions in a space dedicated to doing just that. Artists will work with Threshold management, members, and guest curators to plan, create, and execute professional gallery exhibitions including critical essays, accompanying publications, an opportunity to speak at a public event, and shared marketing efforts. In addition, this unique space will be made available for intimate gatherings, private dining, etc… based on availability and the needs of potential users.
